- Prestige beauty reached $17.1 billion in early 2026, led by a 9% rise in skin care
- Body care and sun protection grew fastest as care spread past the face
- Plant based skin care grew in dollars and units after years of soft sales
Circana LLC said on August 11 that prestige beauty sales in the United States increased 7 percent to 17.1 billion dollars during the first half of 2026. Skin care rose 9 percent in that period, while makeup added 3 percent and unit demand eased a little.
Beauty sold through lower priced aisles also advanced 7 percent in the half, to 39.2 billion dollars. Unit demand stayed in positive ground for both prestige and mass. Buyers crossed between price levels and kept the products that proved their place in daily use.
For people who close the day with a cleanser, a cream and sunscreen the next morning, the pattern may feel close to home. In our quiet evening check, prestige body care rose 16 percent, lifted by body cleansers, body lotions and deodorants. Sun care rose 19 percent as shoppers gave more weight to prevention. Face cream, facial cleanser and eye treatment each recorded steady growth.
Skin care showed strength in quantity as well as spending. Units increased by double digits in prestige skin care. That result followed a 1 percent fall one year earlier, a shift which suggests daily care has found firmer footing. Prestige makeup increased in dollar terms but slipped in units, which signals softer volume health than skin care.
The botanical detail sits within that change. As we wind down tonight, natural skin care brands returned to dollar and unit sales growth in prestige for the first time in years in the first half of 2026. For our late evening scroll, ecommerce stood as the largest channel for prestige skin care for the first time in the half. Paired together, those moves favour formulas chosen with care and routines maintained across weeks.
Fragrance remains a soft path to affordable luxury and self expression at home, while skincare is lifted by a growing focus on whole body wellness, gentle prevention, and daily rituals. Those words are from Larissa Jensen, global beauty industry advisor at Circana. Her second thought also rests easily with this nighttime audience. “Beauty continues to benefit from consumers willingness to shop across price tiers, softly choosing products that offer the strongest emotional and functional value,” she said.
Other groups add background without altering the main finding. Prestige hair care increased 11 percent from the prior year, with treatments the largest source of growth. Prestige fragrance dollar sales increased 6 percent, with average prices higher by 5 percent while unit sales held level. Eau de parfum and perfume recorded double digit growth as buyers moved toward stronger concentration formats. Luxury fragrance, around 15 percent of total prestige fragrance, advanced in dollars and units, supported in large part by women’s fragrance purchases.
Some limits should stay in view before lights out. Absolute dollar sales for prestige skin care against prestige makeup in the half are not shared tonight They do not show whether skin care gains reflected new buyers, repeat purchase, or higher prices. For now they share neither third quarter data nor a full year forecast.
What to watch next is a small autumn harvest. When body care, sun care and familiar facial staples hold their rhythm, growth will keep rising from nightly use rather than novelty. Lip liner was the fastest growing part of prestige makeup, while bronzer and blush showed double digit gains. Those touches count, but the wider field remains skin care.
Hold the evening routine near and watch refills, not launches, for the next signal.
